The Searchers, like all great westerns, provides a different take on the genre. The film portrays the quest of a tragic hero (John Wayne, in an unusually touching performance), a soldier embittered by the lost civil war and whose old-fashioned ways prevent him from integrating in a rapidly changing world... "The greatest film in the history of American cinema," according to Martin Scorsese.
