An inept actor from India is invited by mistake to a party given by a Hollywood producer. But his gaffes turn the evening into an unmitigated disaster. Although it is one of the funniest comedies ever made, The Party has been criticised for 'whitewashing', the practice of casting a white actor (here, Peter Sellers), as a non-white character.
