Set in 1953, the film follows a young student who is arrested and sent to Ludao, a Taiwanese island that served as a correctional facility from the 1940s to the 1980s. When the authorities introduce extremely draconian measures, she and her fellow detainees band together and fight back. A clarion call for freedom of opinion, and for freedom, full stop.
