The legacy of Fela Kuti, who died in 1997, endures beyond the afrobeat community. Although the subject of many biographies and documentaries, the complex Nigerian musician has remained inscrutable. The film, which is largely based on accounts from his friend and biographer Carlos Moore, places Kuti's story in a pan-African context and paints a subtle portrait of a rebel and unrelenting visionary.
